SLPPG 507: One Health for SLPs

Effective healthcare collaboration begins with clinicians who understand their own professional identity, values, and communication style. This course prepares speech-language pathology students for interdisciplinary practice by developing self-awareness of authentic professional drivers, clinical decision-making frameworks, and therapeutic communication skills. Students will explore how personal values alignment impacts collaborative care outcomes and examine research on clinician characteristics that contribute to treatment efficacy. Through self-discovery and practical application, students build the foundational mindset and resilience needed to thrive in complex healthcare environments while maintaining professional authenticity. The course integrates One Health principles by emphasizing the interconnected nature of clinician wellbeing, professional identity, and patient outcomes in collaborative care settings.
