MPSYG 1511: Introduction to Human Behavior I

This course begins with a course introduction, which includes philosophy and course goals. Students will be introduced to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition, Text Revision (DSM-V-TR) and how to use it. They will also learn the organization of a psychiatric evaluation and how to write a mental status exam. Students will learn about the criteria of mood disorders, suicide risk assessment, the introduction to the Biopsychosocial model, psychotherapies, and defense mechanisms. They will also learn how to handle difficult clinical situations and give bad news.
